The village of Sawtry is located mid-way between Huntingdon and Peterborough, with good access to the A1 trunk road.

The current population of sawtry is between 5,500 and 6,000 people, a large proportion of which work outside the village, some as far as London because of the direct rail line from Huntingdon to Kings Cross.

The village has a shopping precinct with a hairdressers, newsagents, mini-markets, DIY shop, Veterinary Surgery and the local Chinese take-away/fish and chip shop. Education is well covered by infant and junior schools, and a Community College which teaches up to and including A level students. An indoor swimming pool is located in the Sports Centre within the College grounds.

A private Dental Practise also exists in the village as well as a Doctors Surgery with more than one resident doctor.

For those who do not drive there is an hourly bus service for the village to both Huntingdon and Peterborough.

Generally, the village has plenty of sports and social activities to cover all ages e.g. for those seeking to play football, the juniors have teams from U10 to U16 and the seniors also operate teams in the Peterborough league. There is also a thriving cricket club which incorporates sponsorship of Thomas Morris and various other activities including a swimming club, rambling club and both historical and astrology clubs.
