Seller Insight
Croydon Old Farm began life in the sixteenth century as a manor house and, over the centuries, has grown into a much-loved family home. For the past forty years it has been our family home, a place full of history, comfort, and joy. Now it feels the right time to pass it on, and we’re excited for new owners to create their own memories here.
We’ve always cared for the house with great attention. The kitchen was refitted just four years ago, bathrooms have been modernised, and the old stables have been converted into bright, practical spaces, a heated office and a hobby room.
Of all its rooms, the kitchen has always been our heart. It’s welcoming in winter, cool and airy in summer, and still holds its old bread oven, a wonderful reminder of the home’s past. The main lounge, with its beams and central pole, has been both our quiet retreat and the backdrop for lively celebrations, even a birthday party for forty guests. And when the evenings draw in, the snug with its log burner is the perfect place to unwind.
The house sits in two acres, with open countryside stretching towards Royston and Croydon village. It has been a magical setting for our daughter to grow up, with space, freedom, and adventure always on the doorstep. The gardens are alive with character: a paddock, vegetable patch, greenhouse with a vine, a variety of fruit trees (including a magnificent walnut), and each spring a carpet of aconites and crocuses. Over the years we’ve also kept goats and chickens, which added even more joy to life here.
Being part of Croydon village has been a pleasure. Just half a mile’s walk leads to the pub, the Reading Room, and the church, while the countryside offers endless cycling and walking routes such as the Clopton Way. Guilden Morden provides pubs and a school, Royston has shops, schools, and leisure facilities, and Cambridge is close at hand for bigger adventures. With the A1, M11, and Royston station only 7.7 miles away, travel connections have always been easy.
What we’ll miss most are the little things: spotting rabbits and deer in the garden, watching swallows return to nest each summer, and simply enjoying the warmth and character of a home that has given us so much happiness. We know Croydon Old Farm will do the same for its next owners, and we look forward to seeing its next chapter unfold.
