Property description
Steeped in history and surrounded by glorious countryside, this exceptional Grade II Listed residence forms part of the historic Upwood Manor, a remarkable home believed to date from before 1660.
Occupying a commanding position within approximately four acres of gardens and land, the property offers a rare combination of heritage, grandeur and lifestyle appeal, creating an idyllic country retreat with excellent connectivity.
From the moment of arrival, the sense of occasion is unmistakable. Approached via a sweeping driveway and framed by mature specimen trees, the house exudes timeless elegance. Beyond the impressive façade, a magnificent reception hall with soaring ceilings and an elegant galleried landing sets the tone for the wealth of character and architectural detail found throughout. Original sash windows, flagstone flooring, period fireplaces and exposed timbers combine to create a home of exceptional warmth and authenticity, while the generous proportions and versatile accommodation lend themselves equally well to family living and entertaining on a grand scale.
The gardens and grounds are a particular highlight. Beautifully established lawns, mature planting and far-reaching rural views provide a stunning backdrop to everyday life, offering a wonderful sense of privacy and tranquillity. Whether enjoying summer gatherings on the terrace, exploring the grounds with family, or simply taking in the ever-changing countryside views, the setting is both peaceful and inspiring.
Further enhancing the property's appeal is the addition of approximately two acres of adjoining land to the rear, providing vehicular access and creating exciting possibilities for those seeking an equestrian lifestyle, smallholding opportunities or simply additional space to enjoy, providing a rare and valuable asset in such a well-connected location.
Despite its rural charm, the property remains exceptionally accessible. The village enjoys a strong sense of community and is conveniently placed for major road networks, while nearby Huntingdon offers direct rail services to London King's Cross, making the property ideally suited to those seeking the best of both country and city living.
A home of remarkable provenance, character and scale, Upwood Manor presents a rare opportunity to acquire a distinguished period residence in one of Cambridgeshire's most picturesque settings.
Seller Insight
We knew Upwood Manor was something special before we had even reached the front door. Driving down the sweeping driveway, the sense of arrival was unforgettable. The space, the gardens, the setting and then the wonderful view of the house itself immediately captured our imagination. Having moved from London, we were struck by the scale of everything, from the grand hallway to the high ceilings and generous rooms, and the feeling that this could become an exceptional family home.
Over the years, we have lovingly transformed the property, modernising it throughout while preserving the character, elegance and proportions that first drew us here. Every room has been improved, with updated heating, plumbing, wiring, flooring and finishes, alongside a reconfigured layout that better suits modern family living. The kitchen and bathrooms have been completely replaced, and thoughtful alterations have enhanced both comfort and practicality.
The house has been the perfect setting for family life. The magnificent hallway remains one of our favourite features, creating a wonderful first impression every time we walk through the door. Equally special is the connection between the house and garden. The sitting room opens directly onto the patio, creating a seamless flow for entertaining and allowing guests to move effortlessly between indoors and out.
Outside, we have created spaces that have brought us enormous enjoyment, including a superb office and entertainment area with raised decking and a hot tub. Countless summer gatherings have been enjoyed here, while the adjoining 1.8-acre field adds a rare sense of freedom, privacy and countryside living. The sunsets, perfectly framed down the length of the garden, are simply breathtaking.
Upwood itself is a peaceful and friendly village with a welcoming pub, local schooling and excellent connections to Huntingdon, Peterborough, Cambridge and London. It offers the best of both worlds: tranquil rural living with convenient access to everything you need.
Above all, Upwood Manor has been a warm, happy and much-loved family home, filled with wonderful memories that we will cherish for years to come.
