Aged 72 and living alone, William Burgess was ready to make a change. He decided to downsize to McCarthy and Stone’s new Biggleswade development, Parkland Place. In fact, he was the first homeowner to move in, and so far has been enjoying spending time finding his feet and making new friends at the development on Shortmead Street.

Talking about his decision to move, William said “I relocated from the nearby market town of Sandy, where I have lived since 1971, I no longer wanted to spend time maintaining my home and garden. Living at the end of a cul de sac, I rarely saw anybody, and wanted to move somewhere that offered me the opportunity to meet new people”.

When McCarthy and Stone arrived in Biggleswade, William attended the Parkland Place sales launch. While at the event, he reserved his first choice of a ground floor one-bedroom apartment, ensuring he would wake up to views of the landscaped and professionally maintained gardens.

Talking about the moving process, William comments “Despite a far from straightforward sale of my property through a local estate agent, McCarthy and Stone stepped in quickly with the part exchange process, which enabled the whole thing to happen quickly, helping me to achieve my deadline date for moving.”

“The McCarthy and Stones sales team made my purchase and move smooth and trouble free. Their continuous support throughout a very stressful period left me with a smile on my face and a certainty that I had made the right move”.

William said: “My apartment is perfect. It is just the right size for me. I have plenty of space and I don’t have to do half as much housework anymore. The team at McCarthy and Stone tend to the gardens, so I can sit back and admire the view, and I look forward to spending time relaxing outdoors in the summer.”

Retirement Living offers over 60’s all the benefits of home ownership, but without any of the maintenance worries. All external and communal areas are taken care of by McCarthy and Stone’s expert team, and a dedicated House Manager takes care of the day-to-day running of the development.

Offering an attractive selection of two bedroom Retirement Living apartments starting from £325,000, Parkland Place has been designed with modern luxury and low maintenance living in mind. Facilities at the development include a stunning Club Lounge, ideal for socialising with friends, and a convenient guest suite should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay.

In his spare time, William enjoys going to his indoor bowls club twice a week, reading, and looking at his family history. Talking about his social life, he says, “I am looking forward to beginning social activities at Parkland Place with my new neighbours, and am hoping to find someone with my mutual love of bowls. I enjoy keeping myself busy and I’m looking forward to watching the community develop here and meeting each new person that arrives.”

When asked what he would say to those considering the move, William added; “Although downsizing means you have to undertake the usual process of getting rid of things and moving, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done! It has brought me so much comfort and peace of mind knowing there is always someone to help if needed, and I’m looking forward to the future here.”.

Parkland Place is situated in a desirable spot just opposite the River Ivel, and is in walking distance of both the bus station and the Biggleswade train station. Homeowners are just a short walk away from a butcher, pharmacy, cafes and local boutiques.
