It doesn’t have to take a whole lot of effort to transform your home. All you need is the time to tackle your home improvement projects – and what better time than a bank holiday weekend? Richard Carpenter from Fine & Country St Neots offers guidance on what can be accomplished over a long weekend.

With more and more of our time being devoted to work during the week, home improvement projects often get left by the wayside. With another long weekend approaching, this could be the ideal time to knock out one of the tasks on your to-do list. Alternatively, if you’re looking for some quick and easy projects to transform your space over the bank holiday weekend, here are a few projects that can be easily managed in limited time.

Painting is a reasonably quick and easy way to spruce up a room or two and it also won’t break the bank. At the same time, it can completely transform a space. Before you get started, think about the mood you’d like to create and how the colours are going to work with your furniture and accessories. If you want a change, but don’t want to paint an entire room, consider a feature wall – painting just one wall can add colour and interest to any space. Retiling a bathroom can also be accomplished in a long weekend…with a bit of grit.

Another quick transformation project is updating doors and cabinets. If your kitchen cupboards are a little tired, you can quite easily replace the doors, or stain or paint your cabinets, depending on the finish, for a whole new look. Your interior doors can also influence the feeling of a room. These can be replaced, or painted to bring a fresh feel.

Revamping your front door with a fresh coat of paint can do wonders for your home's curb appeal, too.

The extra day of a bank holiday weekend can also give you time to spring clean. Feeling organised can make a world of difference. It can be as simple as taking the time to file paperwork, clearing out a wardrobe, or tackling the boxes in the garage.

Weather permitting, bank holiday weekends also provide an opportunity to exercise your green fingers and spruce up your garden, just as things are starting to grow. Decking can be cleaned and weatherproofed or stained to look as good as new and this is the ideal time for new plantings, if you want to introduce more colour.

Regardless of what project you decide to tackle, preparing a plan of attack is a useful way of estimating making sure you have the time you need to finish what you start. Before you know it, your three-day weekend will be over and hopefully, you’ll be satisfied with the home improvements you’ve achieved.
